Howard Hall was originally a Wesleyan Methodist chapel built in 1808. When the Methodists left in the 1890s the building became a meeting and concert venue and was named Howard Hall. In 1908 the hall became a picture house and it remained in use as a cinema until 1956. Following this the building was demolished and subsequently houses have been built on the site.
